Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Interstitium and stack management.

  1. 1

    What is Interstitium?

Interstitium is a stack management tool that helps indie developers and small teams understand what services power their projects. It maps your tools visually, tracks costs, flags overlaps, and helps you discover better alternatives.

  2. 2

    Who is Interstitium for?

Anyone who followed a tutorial, signed up for six services, got something working, and now has accounts scattered across providers they half-understand. If you don't know what you're paying for or what depends on what, Interstitium is for you.

  3. 3

    What is stack debt?

Stack debt is the accumulation of outdated, redundant, or poorly-integrated tools in your tech stack. Like technical debt, it builds up silently when you add services without evaluating whether you already have something that does the same job.

  4. 4

How does the investigation board work?

The board shows your project at the centre with all its services orbiting around it. You can draw dependency lines between services, see cost badges, and click any node to open its dashboard. It gives you the full picture at a glance.

  5. 5

    Is Interstitium free?

Yes — there's a free tier that covers most individual developers. If you need team features or manage more than a handful of projects, paid plans are available.

  6. 6

How do I track what I'm paying for?

When you add a service, you record its cost, billing cycle, and even the last 4 digits of the card you're using. Interstitium then shows you the total monthly cost per project and warns you about services that might be redundant.
